How the 2% fee works

FonePay deducts a flat 2% gateway fee from every merchant transaction before settling the balance to your account. Two different questions follow from that, and they have different answers:

What do I receive?

Net = Amount − (Amount × 2%)
Charge Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 980 reaches you.

What should I charge?

Due = Amount ÷ (1 − 2%)
To bank Rs. 1,000 you must charge Rs. 1,021 — not Rs. 1,020.

The common mistake: adding 2% to the amount instead of dividing. Adding gets you Rs. 1,020, which after the fee nets Rs. 999.60 — still short. Dividing is the only way to land exactly on your target.
